December 30, 2002
Probably the last update of the year 2002, and it looks as if the old pier is coming along. They have put in the concrete wall running across the front of the pier, and there are a number of cross braces with inch and a half steel rods with turnbuckles tightening the rods across the whole pier. These look like earthquake bolts that one sees in many old buildings to support the structure. Of course, the new bases for the cranes are poured and reinforced with greenbar steel. It would appear to me that the old Riverton Steamship Landing is well preserved for a future generation.

The Riverton Yacht Club and the Steamboat Landing Pier at the end of year 2002. The reconstruction project is yet complete, but given a month it should be finished. Hopefully it will stand for another 137 years to remind us of the days when a major link in transportation was ferry travel on the Delaware River. |
