October 31 (Halloween)

(Met Hank at the club taking pictures (He Emailed me that they were pouring the concrete base for the walkway), after all the effort and delays he wants to be there every minute that they are doing things)

Concrete truck set to pour new foundation Shot taken from dock to parking lot. Note the old 6' pilings that have been removed at the base of the abutment.

The frame for the parking lot side of the new walkway. A little tough to see but the new piling

is 80' long and into the ground about 72'. The old pilings were "screwed" into the ground about 6 to 7 feet. The pilings are coated with a sealer, and the wall behind (shore side of dock) and all steel walls will be sand blasted and then covered with the same material.

Picture of the dock with old pilings removed. Tough to see, but the concrete abutment is eroded very badly at the base. Pilings driven in and the concrete poured for the day, the RYC & Pier await the coming storm over the weekend.

A lot has happened this week, according to the plan this "pour abutment" should be on October 28, so we are a few days late. This is one really serious rebuild, and the pier should be much stronger than when first built in the 1880's. A job that we should be proud of preserving this piece of history (Riverton - Philadelphia ferry service landing site) and a big thanks to all those people that made it happen.
